Show #20 - 30 Years Of The C64 - A Symphonic Celebration

Now Available For Download!
Running Time: 80 mins.

[Download mp3]

This episode of OMAHM was produced to celebrate 30 years of the Commodore 64! For this show I have selected my favourite symphonic remixes of classic C64 tunes. It includes stunning orchestral remixes of famous C64 themes by Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Ben Daglish, Richard Joseph & Peter Clarke etc.

The show also features an incredible new symphonic mix by K8-bit of the in-game theme from the 2012 Psytronik Software mega-hit C64 release Soulless. According to K8 the track was quite difficult to cover but she really delivered the goods with her symphonic version. Not only has she captured the style and atmosphere of the tune perfectly but has delivered a fantasic mix that builds on the original and features the inspired use of the famous 'blaster beam' sound (as heard in the famous Star Trek:The Motion Picture soundtrack).

Show status: Now online and available for download.
The show was released on Sunday July 29th 2012.

Show #19 - A Tribute To Paul Hadrill (DJ Skitz)

Now Available For Download!
Running Time: 60 mins.

[Download mp3]

Episode 19 of One Man & His Mic is dedicated to my good friend Paul 'DJ Skitz' Hadrill who sadly passed away on February 16th 2011 after a brave 5 year battle with a brain tumour. DJ Skitz was a popular member of the retro scene and contributed a fine selection of C64 remixes to Remix.Kwed.Org. He was also a regular attendee at retro computer events like Back in Time Live, RetroVision and the SLAYRadio gathering. He also regularly hosted shows on SLAYRadio and got people in the mood for a night out on the lash with his Saturday Night Warmup show.

For this episode of OMAHM I wanted to capture the style of some of his radio shows - and as it has been far too long since we heard him on the airwaves I decided to feature Paul himself in the show. To create this episode I listened to several of his SLAYRadio shows and snaffled lots of Skitz audio snippets that I then edited into this show so that Paul makes various appearances throughout the show. This episode features lots of remixes by Skitz along with jingles from his radio shows + more. I hope you enjoy my little tribute to DJ Skitz, a damn fine bloke and a good friend who is sadly missed. R.I.P Paul Hadrill.

Top Tip: I recommend you do NOT listen to the track Armageddon! while on a packed commuter train. People on there must have thought I was some kind of loony grinning and smirking away while this played through my headphones. Good old Skitz! ;)

Show status: Now online and available for download.
The show was released on Thursday February 16th 2012.

Show #18 - SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis Special)

Now Available For Download!
Running Time: 60 mins.

[Download mp3]

Episode 18 of One Man & His Mic is a SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) Special. This was a really interesting show to produce as I never actually owned a Mega Drive (I was a SNES fiend). I had great fun researching the show and spent a few weeks immersing myself in the Mega Drive music scene. The resulting 1 hour show features a selection of the most popular Mega Drive game themes, some personal choices selected from tunes I discovered while researching the show and some requests and suggestions that were sent in. Please note that none of the tunes featured in this show have been remixed or updated - it's all Mega Drive music! Now I just need to go and get the simple but brilliant Sword of Vermilion theme surgically removed from my brain as I just can't get it out of my head ... Enjoy the show. :)

Show status: Now online and available for download.
The show was released on Friday December 9th 2011.

Show #14 - PlayStation Music Special (Part 2)
(Exclusive interview with Tim 'CoLD SToRAGE' Wright)

Now Available For Download!
Running Time: 32 mins 55 secs.

[Download mp3]

Here we have the second part of the One Man & His Mic Sony PlayStation special! This part of the show features an exclusive interview with Tim 'CoLD SToRAGE' Wright. Tim is a PlayStation music pioneer and created soundtracks for various PlayStation games including Wipeout, Destruction Derby, Colony Wars and Krazy Ivan etc. He also created the Music(tm) music creation utility for the PlayStation along with its subsequent sequels (Music 2000 / MTV Music Generator).

Show status: Now online and available for download.
The show was released on Sunday August 22nd 2010.

** OMAHM CoLD SToRAGE Competition! **

During the interview, we played many of Tim's classic tunes in the background. Can you name at least 12 of those tracks? If so, then get in touch via EMAIL as you can win a prize!

The first person to get in touch with the correct answers will win a free copy of Gravity Crash on the PSP (a download code) and also a limited edition CoLD SToRAGE black wooly hat.

There are only two of these hats in existence, because they were accidentally manufactured when the embroidery company embroidered the CoLD SToRAGE logo on the wrong type of hat. They are roll bottom wooly beanies and even thought not as we requested, they still look really cool!

The first hat will go to the winner along with the PSP code,
the second hat will go to the first runner up.

Many thanks to: Tim 'CoLD SToRAGE' Wright for taking the time to answer my questions and for doing all the mixing and editing of this part of the show! Thanks also to Ziphoid for supplying webspace and special thanks to YOU for listening to it!

This is part one of a two part episode of One Man & His Mic devoted to the mighty Sony PlayStation (PS one). The show features tunes from classic beat 'em ups (Tekken & Soul Blade), horror games (Silent Hill, Doom & Resident Evil 2), Shoot 'Em Ups (N20, Einhander & NovaStorm) + many more!! The show also contains some 'interesting' voice-acting courtesy of www.audioatrocities.com ... "You were almost a Jill sandwich" !

Techno-Trivia:- This show has actually been in development for TWO YEARS! It was originally meant to have been a part of OMAHM series 1 but I lost all the links I had recorded and the sound-beds in a hard-drive crash so the show was abandoned. Two years later I discovered all the main tracks were still intact so I've now re-recorded all the links using my shiny new mic, restored all the beds and have finally finished off the show.

Part two of the OMAHM 'PlayStation Music Special' will be released in August 2010 and will feature an exclusive interview with PlayStation music pioneer Tim 'Cold Storage' Wright! And we'll be running a special COMPETITION with part 2 of the show too ... Yowza!

Show #11 - Musique Pour SID Chips
(The C64 Jean-Michel Jarre Music Special)

Now Available For Download!
Running Time: 60 mins.

[Download mp3]

I've been a fan of legendary French synth musician Jean-Michel Jarre for about as long as I've been a fan of Commodore 64 music (probably over 25 years now!) In fact, it was my love of Commodore 64 music that led me to the music of Jean-Michel Jarre - as I found I much preferred Jarre's synthesiser music over more traditional pop or rock music. With that in mind I've decided to start series 2 of One Man & His Droid with this special Jarre themed show. The 1 hour show is devoted to Commodore 64 remixes done in the style of Jean-Michel Jarre and it also features some superb Jarre covers done on the C64! In this episode you will hear stunning Jarre style remixes by Marcel Donné, o2 and Razmo along with fantastic C64 covers of famous tracks from Oxygene and Magnetic Fields etc. - resulting in a show that is, as Jean-Michel would say, "a totally unique concept!"

Show status: Now online and available for download.
The show was released on Monday March 22nd 2010.
