Featuring the music of Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Jeroen Tel,
Ben Daglish, Reyn Ouwehand, Marcel Donné and many others!

It was actually my love of Commodore 64 music that got me interested in the
music of Jean-Michel Jarre originally. Before I owned a C64 a friend of mine would record
me all the latest game themes which I played over and over again. This became my first real
musical true love as I was never really into “pop music”. One day the same friend played me
the music of Jean-Michel and I was amazed at how similar his style was to the C64 music I
had been listening to. I became an instant fan and have been collecting the works of
Jarre ever since. An interesting thing also happened within the C64 music scene
itself. Many of the composers found themselves being inspired by the music
of Jean-Michel Jarre and were producing their own interpretations of his
music using the Commodore 64’s sound capabilities.

A selection of Commodore 64 pictures inspired by Jean-Michel Jarre album covers

The two CDs feature some of the best C64 covers of Jean-Michel Jarre tracks that I
could find after an extensive search through the High Voltage SID collection. It’s nice to
see that some of the most famous C64 composers including Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway,
Jeroen Tel, Ben Daglish and Reyn Ouwehand were all inspired by Jarre and all covered his work
at some point. One track that isn’t included on either of these CDs if the theme from ‘Captain Blood’
which was actually licensed for use within the game. Unfortunately, the resulting C64 tune was so
diabolical I decided not to include it as it was hardly recognisable as being a Jean-Michel Jarre
track. It’s ironic that all these unlicensed covers are far better quality than the one Jarre
track was was licensed for use in a game! Kenz (November 2004)

The artwork and name for 'Music For SID Chips' were inspired by the Jean-Michel Jarre album 'Music For Supermarkets'. Only one copy of 'Music for Supermarkets' was produced and was auctioned off for 70,000 francs (nearly £10,000) back in 1983. The album sleeve was numbered '1' and in keeping with the spirit of the original release every copy of 'Music for SID Chips' will be individually numbered. SPECIAL THANKS TO: Ian Learmonth for giving me the idea for this album, Andrew Fisher
for his help finding the screenshots and to Marcel Donné for his remixed "Zarjaz" track.
